Septum Piercing

The septum is the membrane behind the central cartilage of the nose. Septum piercing reaches from remote Africa to Indochina and South America.
Original septum piercing jewelry included feathers, shells and animal teeth. The piercing should be located through the thin tissue between the inner cartilage and the outside edge of the septum.
The piercing should be placed well forward and high towards the tip of the nose. A proper septum piercing will allow a ring to hang freely.
