Dolphin TattoosA Little Bit About Dolphin Tattoos The smart and sociable dolphin, which by the way, is a mammal and not a fish, has always drawn attention from seafarers, maybe nowhere more so than in the Mediterranean area. Historically for the Greeks, Dolphins represented the sacred and righteous. Apollo occasionally took the form of a dolphin. No wonder every so often an occurance takes place between people and dolphins that contributes to the portrayal of men riding dolphins in Greek art. Additionally, the Cretans believed that dolphins carried the deceased to the ends of the earth. For seafarers around the globe, the dolphin was viewed as a guardian and chaperone, again likely because of records of dolphins fighting off sharks to guard sailors who had fallen overboard, plus their proneness to frolic in the wake of the bow of ships. It is also quite common to see dolphin tattoos that are repetitive in form, thus utilized for armbands or ankle wraps.
